This and That

On August 1st our oldest daughter left to start her senior year at Baylor University, this past Friday we took our son to SFA to start his freshman year. We are now official empty nesters. And while some dream of a quiet house, for me it's too quiet. I have been a stay at home mom their entire lives and now I find myself wondering what's next? I do enjoy spending time with Mr. C and I know we will enjoy time together it just seems so quiet in this house.  So please fellow blogger say a little prayer for me that I won't go nuts and that I will find my way on this new journey!  So off the pity party and onto more fun things.  Below you will find three projects that I did one weekend to show how you can really change the look with just a little paint and glaze.

This first project was a lage bamboo bowl that I bought at Target years ago. It was really marked down to I bought it, but once I got it home it had a tad too much orange in it to it went in the closet. When I finally pulled it out I decided why not paint it.

Here it is with a coat of white paint..still pretty boring!!

Added a little glaze and it came to life!

Add some distressing

Seal it and its ready to go. Now it has a home on the family room table full of old photos. My family loves sifting through them as well as our guests and I am always switching them out.

Found this bird statue at hallmark over the holidays, it was pretty with the gold leaf but after the holidays, I was ready for the gold to go. So painted him white, added the glaze..and now he is out year round!

And last but not least, this gold bowl, I scored at a yard sale for a buck. Its nice and heavy and I loved the detail..just not the gold!
Can you guess where we are going? White paint..

And some glaze..see how the details just pop!

Of course my horsedog Sammie had to be in the pic! lol  Anyway what didn't work now does. All with a little paint and glaze!

Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful week!!!

You have been busy! It is never easy leaving the kids at school. Our daughter graduated in May and is now back at home...we love having her back but know that it is only a matter of time and she will be in her own place.

It is always amazing what a little paint, glaze, and distressing can do. You were able to bring out each piece's personality!

What a transformation the glaze makes....must try some soon. Enjoy your empty nest! The kids usually come home for holidays to make them sweeter!

The pictures in the dish are a great idea. Who doesn't love to have little look at the past. Fun!

Nice transformations! Funny how something so subtle as a little white paint can change an entire piece like that. Thanks so much for sharing at Etcetorize this week!

Isn't it amazing what a little paint can do? Love the transformation of all of them. I bought a couple of urns at a yard sale for $3 each. They are gold with a bit of black. I will be doing the same thing, hopefully today. Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
Hugs,
Jann
