Metamorphosis Monday!

It's Metamorphosis Monday and our lovely hostess is Susan over at :

http://betweennapsontheporch.blogspot.com/ hop on over to see some really great ideas!

When we moved into our home it was Barbies Pink Palace..and I am being very serious about that. We had pink plush carpet! Well the carpet was brand new and with small kids and no money we lived with it. Funny how no matter how much you try to keep pink carpet clean, over time it turns pinky brown. YUK! Well two years ago we had enough, we had let the carpet remain in the house for 8 years, the kids were older so we moved ahead. I wanted wood, it is easy to clean (except for the constant fight with pet hair) its beautiful and timeless. So my dear husband pulled up all the carpet, we picked out wood. This is where I came in to make it alittle more difficult. I wanted different hues, not just a straight color so we bought three different tones of cherry and he went to town. What a great job he did. The big surprise is what we found under the carpet in the family room. Its was really pretty wood. Original to the house..and we would have kept it but we had already done the rest of the downstairs in the cherry and it was so different. Could we get the color..sure but the plants were very..very different. We also found out the family room sat alittle lower that the adjoining rooms which was a plus as we put our wood over the old wood floor. I was thrilled..maybe sometime way down the road we might revisit that great wood floor, but for now its safe under our new wood floor.

Old wood floor!

New wood floor!

Pink carpet would really be hard to live with. The old wood floors look lovely, but your new wood floors are just gorgeous. I love the color and that you picked different shades. It makes it sooo much prettier. Beautifully done. Hugs, Marty

Don't you wish you'd discovered the wood under the family room carpeting earlier? You and your family could have enjoyed it all those years you suffered with pink carpet!! The new floors look great, though... no wonder you're happy about this transformation!

I love wood floors. We have been debating on putting them in instead of the carpet we have. Yours are beautiful.

Wonderful! I love wood floors and was fortunate enough to grow up in a home where we had wood floors. I have wonderful oak under my dreadful carpets, and it is my dream to have them uncovered, sanded and refinished...but til then it's an ugly "blue/brown" carpet :0(. blah!

I love it, what a great idea to vary the color! I wouldlove to have hardwood, especially in the family room, it's so difficult to keep carpet clean in a high traffic area. Great job!

Hopefully you'll have a chance to restore the original wood flooring one day -- it's beautiful!!

In the meantime, your new cherry flooring looks fantastic!! I like that you went with three different hues -- adds a lot of character and interest.

BTW, your pups are cute!!

I like them both. I have always loved the cherry colored wood. My wife and I have your old wood color in our kitchen but the planks are about 3 of the small strips. I would like to redo them or at least get them refurbed (really the entire kitchen needs to be remodeled) but like you when you moved in, we have little kids and the thought of getting them done to be played on and trafficed thru all day takes away the justification. Tell your husband he did a great job. They look really great. -Steve

Although I LOVE pink Im not sure I could live with Barbie pink for carpets... but then you never know.
Not sure my boys would agree.
Love your new floors and your fur babies.
